Applicant says duplexes will be well-maintained and aimed at families
Summary
An applicant for the rezoning at 1707 South Hatcher said the planned duplex will be kept in good condition, with monthly site visits and contracted lawn service; the owner-operator said rent increases would be limited to when taxes make current rents unsustainable.

At the Planning & Zoning meeting April 7, a representative for the property owner, Connie Weaver, spoke in support of developing 1707 South Hatcher Street into a duplex and described the owner's maintenance practices and tenant approach.
"We intend to build it and maintain it to families who need a place to live," Weaver said, adding that the owner-operator visits the site about once a month, typically hires lawn service, and prefers to retain tenants long-term rather than raising rent frequently. Weaver said the units are usually all-brick but that the builder would use materials compatible with the existing neighborhood if needed.
Weaver's remarks were the only public comment recorded on the item; staff said no formal objections were received from the 14 property owners who were mailed notice. The commission proceeded to recommend the rezoning and related comprehensive plan amendment to city council.
