Board adopts 2026–31 strategic plan after MASB-led process

The Hazel Park Board of Education approved a five-year strategic plan (2026–31) after a presentation summarizing nine months of stakeholder input, data collection and a May implementation retreat. Greg Janicki, the MASB facilitator, said the plan reflects 176 survey responses and the work of community and staff participants and emphasized that implementation now begins if the board approves the framework.
Janicki framed the plan around five goal areas—academics and programs; learning environment and culture; communication and community engagement; personnel and leadership; and operations—and listed priority first-year objectives such as math and ELA curriculum alignment, expanding college- and career-readiness pathways, increasing registered behavior technicians and creating a bond task force to explore facilities funding. "You have now a framework, should you choose to approve the items for you this evening, to begin to move forward," Janicki said.
Board members praised the community engagement and the facilitator’s work, and voted to adopt the plan. Trustees and staff emphasized the need to align the strategic plan to the Michigan Continuous Improvement Plan (MICIP) process, develop a monitoring calendar, and ensure the plan is used as a guide for budget and policy decisions.
