The Clute Economic Development Council heard the annual EDC report from the city manager, who reviewed recent planning awards and a set of projects aimed at downtown revitalization. The manager said the city received recognition from the Texas APA and the National Planning Council for planning and housing work and described a plan to convert part of the recently purchased Shanks Lake property into recreational space while reserving other acreage for a multi-use urban core.
The manager outlined specific near-term investments for the pocket park and Main Street streetscape and said the EDC budgeted $150,000 this year for remedial park work, lighting and fencing. "We purchased the Shanks Lake property with the idea of turning part of it into a recreational facility," the manager said. On finances, staff summarized a beginning fund balance of about $3,300,000 and year-to-date figures that, if trends hold, would leave the city roughly $500,000 ahead at fiscal year end. The report was approved by the council as "the presentation of the annual EDC report," and the board recorded a voice vote in favor.
