Clute joins coalition to suspend CenterPoint Energy gas rate filing

The council approved Resolution No. 13-2026 to suspend the proposed effective date of CenterPoint Energy’s recent gas reliability infrastructure filing for 45 days and authorized the city’s continued participation in the Texas Coast Utilities Coalition (TCUC).
"This is our annual dance we do with CenterPoint in an attempt to try and appeal their continuing request for increases," one council member said, describing the routine municipal response to utility rate filings. City staff framed the action as standard: suspending the effective date gives cities additional time to review filings and, where appropriate, join coalition responses or challenges.
After the motion and second, the chair called for a voice vote and the resolution was approved. The council provided no additional direction to staff beyond continued participation in the coalition during the suspension period.
