An NSF official (addressed on the record as Brian) told the panel that NSF will provide major infrastructure and data investments to support Genesys challenges. He said NSF plans to invest roughly $380,000,000 (noting the figure could rise to "well over $400,000,000") in programmable cloud labs, establish 20 testbeds nationwide, and make sizable investments in infrastructure and AI-ready datasets.
"We're going to be investing $380,000,000. Actually, it's probably well over $400,000,000 by the time we're finished," the NSF official said, and added that NSF will also commit about $80,000,000 in infrastructure and more than $100,000,000 for datasets intended to be data-ready for AI research. The official framed these investments as foundational: shared hardware and datasets that accelerate discovery across disciplines.
