"Today, we're announcing 278 awards with over 250,000,000 of funding," the moderator said, and added that 342 institutions are participating across national labs, universities, companies and nonprofits representing all 50 states.
Department staff also announced that the Genesis Mission Consortium has expanded to include 20 federal agencies and that the original set of 26 national challenges has been revised and expanded to 33. The speaker highlighted Project Prometheus as a phase‑2 example in nuclear energy and said remaining phase‑2 awards would be announced by early fall. The plenary also described “Quantum Genesys,” a program aiming for first‑generation fault‑tolerant quantum hardware by 2028 and new user facilities to support scientific computing and AI.
