Staff told the commission that the current ordinance contains an extensive species list that would be easier to manage if it were removed from the code and maintained as a searchable, living list on the city's website. That approach would let the list be updated without a code amendment when new invasive species emerge or scientific guidance changes.
Commissioners discussed which agency or group should maintain the list and suggested possible partners including the Soil & Water Conservation District, OSU extension programs and Pacific Habitat Services. Staff also suggested including photos and brief identification tips for commonly encountered invasive species to help residents recognize them. No changes to the code were adopted; commissioners agreed the approach merits additional work and public input because it affects many property owners.
