Pacific Habitat says wetlands mapping nearly complete; Yachats staff, state to finish review by January

Consultants from Pacific Habitat Services updated the Yachats City Council on progress toward completing a wetlands inventory and mapped report the city initiated years ago.
John Van Stavrin, president and senior professional wetland scientist at Pacific Habitat Services, said the field work and most mapping are finished and that the firm has incorporated Department of State Lands (DSL) comments and local reviewer notes. "We are very close to wrapping up the project," Van Stavrin told council, and he said the team expects to complete the submission by the end of January.
Sean Eisner added DSL changed required GIS submittal standards during the gap years, which required revisiting and updating original data. DSL reviewer Jabber Brown (Department of State Lands) said staffing turnover and backlog contributed to earlier delays but that she now has additional assistance and hopes to prioritize the review in January.
Council asked staff to prepare a concise list of remaining barriers, the actions needed to clear them, and firm timelines for completion. Consultants said most outstanding items are mapping adjustments and GIS-format updates; they described remaining changes as "nitpicky" and technical rather than substantive.
