Cedar Hill issues several proclamations and awards Best Southwest mayoral scholarship

Councilmembers and mayoral representatives used the May 12 meeting to recognize civic work and mark awareness periods. The council proclaimed May 17–23, 2026 as National Public Works Week, May 2026 as ALS Awareness Month, and May as National Travel and Tourism Month in Cedar Hill, highlighting the economic contribution of tourism and the role of public works in storm response and daily services.
"Whereas public works is provided in Cedar Hill and is an integral, often unseen part of the quality of life of our citizens," a mayoral proclamation read as staff and council members recognized the department’s efforts. Councilmember Daniel C. Hayden Jr. read a proclamation on ALS Awareness Month and urged support for research and access to therapies; the ALS proclamation noted typical survival estimates following diagnosis.
The council also presented the Best Southwest Partnership Mayoral Scholarship to high‑school student Aidan Lamont, who received a $2,500 scholarship and an additional $1,000 award, and said he will attend Sam Houston State University this fall. "I received a $2,500 scholarship and then another $1,000 scholarship," Aidan Lamont said, thanking the partnership and the council.
These ceremonial items were presented early in the meeting and did not require council action beyond recognition and acceptance of proclamations.
