Cedar Hill honors retiring Councilmember Daniel C. Hayden Jr. with 2026 Lifetime Achievement Award

Mayor Steve Mason presented a 2026 Lifetime Achievement Award to Daniel C. Hayden Jr. at the Cedar Hill City Council meeting on April 28, citing 26 years of service and listing Hayden’s committee assignments and community roles. The proclamation said Cedar Hill’s crime rate decreased "by 16%" during Hayden’s tenure.

Local officials, staff and community organizations offered tributes throughout the meeting. City Manager Melissa Valdez called Hayden’s tenure "a commitment and dedication to when he says he's gonna do something, he does it with all of his heart," and presented a racquetball racket and a memory book. Vanessa Alonzo of the Chamber of Commerce said, "Mister Hayden has been a dedicated and long standing city council member, a strong advocate for our local businesses," and presented chamber recognition.

Public safety leaders singled out Hayden’s advocacy. Public Safety Director Eli Reyes noted Cedar Hill’s growth, saying, "When you were elected to council first, the population of Cedar Hill was about 32,000 people. And now we're upwards of 50,000." Fire Chief Mike Harrison described a ceremonial white helmet and a custom 'retired councilman' badge as symbols of the department’s appreciation.

A video montage and remarks from council members and local organizations—library staff, the Lions Club, the museum and planning department—highlighted Hayden’s role in projects including the Hillside Village/Uptown development, the government center and the city’s parks master planning. Hayden thanked his family and colleagues, and said he intends to remain involved in the community. He also said he will "publicly support the next council person, council member Patty Busheart."
