Council introduced and read an ordinance to create a conditional permitted use allowing limited automobile sales in B‑3 zoning districts, with conditions intended to prevent repair, salvage or franchise-dealership operations and to require compliance with other zoning provisions.
A city representative explained the change as a narrowly tailored allowance: "No vehicle repair/body work, any of this mailing or salvage to incur on the property. These cannot include a franchise dealership operation," the speaker said, and added that the first likely applicant could be the former Advance Auto Parts building. The council set a public hearing on the ordinance for July 15 at 5:30 p.m.
Council members clarified that the change would not be a free‑for‑all: a conditional-use process and planning approval would be required before any site could operate under the new allowance.
