City manager: community center construction progressing; $250,000 CDBG step cleared

City Manager Scott Derickson told the council the community center construction is underway and described recent grant and fundraising progress.
"We passed the first phase of the CDBG grant application with Marion County for $250,000 for equipment and furniture that will now go to HUD for review," Derickson said, adding that the Family Ford Foundation awarded the city $20,000 to support the same project. He said the city has also submitted a request for a congressional earmark of $1,800,000 to support a gymnasium component.
Derickson said a small delegation will attend the National League of Cities conference in Washington, D.C., and that staff will pursue federal meetings to support funding priorities; he promised the delegation would report back to council following the trip.
