Council hears suggestion to clarify short-term rental language in city ordinance

Tyler, the zoning inspector, reported February permit activity and raised the topic of short-term rentals, saying the current ordinance is ambiguous and that staff would like direction. "We kinda want some kind of communication with that... not allowing it in the city, just cleaning up the wording in the ordinance, to make it more clear for people," Tyler said, noting calls from residents about homes being bought to turn into Airbnbs.
Council members asked staff to provide feedback and to let Tyler know in the next couple weeks if drafting legislation should start. One council member recalled a prior review about four years earlier and noted the council decided not to pass legislation then; staff were asked to bring a clearer draft if the council wants to revisit the question.
