Four CCPS early‑childhood programs earn MSDE accreditation and Maryland EXCELS Level 5

Calvert County Public Schools announced that Barstow Elementary, Calvert Elementary, Patuxent Appeal Campus and Sunderland Elementary pre‑K programs earned full MSDE accreditation and Maryland EXCELS Level 5, recognizing program quality in leadership, curriculum, safety and family engagement.
Michelle Ward, supervisor of early childhood, told the board that four Calvert County Public Schools early‑learning programs began the accreditation process in 2024 and earned full MSDE accreditation and Maryland EXCELS Level 5 in February 2026. Ward described MSDE accreditation and Maryland EXCELS as statewide quality assurance systems and credited principals, teachers, instructional assistants and early childhood staff for the work.
Ward called forward representatives from each school to receive certificates and listed participating staff by name. The superintendent and board congratulated the schools and noted the accomplishments demonstrate the district’s early‑childhood commitment.
