Forney council approves canvass of May 2 election; certifies Place 6 winner

The City of Forney City Council voted to approve the unofficial canvass of the May 2, 2026 general election and to take steps to finalize election paperwork. Miss Rios read the resolution and the precinct-by-precinct report the council relied on to accept the results. The reading referenced Section 67.004 of the Texas Election Code: “pursuant to section 67.004 of the Texas election code, only 2 members of the governing body are required to canvas the results,” Miss Rios said while explaining the reporting requirements.
The canvass report showed that no candidate received a majority for Council Place 4, triggering a runoff between the two highest vote-getters, while Greg Helm received 648 votes for Place 6, a majority that will be formalized once certificates and oaths are issued. Mayor (speaking for the council) asked for discussion, then moved approval; Councilmember Traylor moved the motion and Councilmember Weatherford seconded. The council approved the canvass by a show-of-hands vote. Miss Rios said she will post the resolution and corrected term dates on the city elections website.
