Chief Beresen told the council the incident involved chaotic scenes across a roughly two-block area, multiple altercations and active gunfire, and that officers identified seven people with gunshot wounds and rendered aid while coordinating with incoming agencies. "Their composure under pressure, their decisive action, and unwavering commitment to protecting life and restoring order reflect the highest standards of our profession," the chief said, and he presented awards to Sergeant Daniel Blackford and other officers and dispatchers who assisted that night.
The chief said one subject was already in custody and another was expected to be taken into custody. The police playback was a condensed, roughly 90-second compilation of different body cameras to show the range of conditions officers encountered. The recognition included citations from the Texas Police Chiefs Association noting leadership development and preparedness for command-level responsibilities.
