Josh Terrell, a vestry member at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, asked the Dickinson Management District No. 1 board during public comment for a $12,000 grant to support the church’s annual Strawberry Festival, which he said is entering its 91st year in Dickinson.
"We are essentially providing a marketing day for the city's commercial resources," Terrell said, describing last year’s attendance at the event as between 3,000–5,500 people and saying the budget directs roughly $8,500 toward a kids zone and live entertainment intended to drive attendance and vendor sales. He also said Sonic has pledged sponsorship and that the applicant will provide a detailed accounting within 30 days of the event, if funded.
Board members later revisited the application as old business. Several members noted the festival application had been presented at a previous meeting and was denied because it did not meet the statutory requirement for stimulating commercial activity. After questions about whether new information had been submitted, the board took no motion and no action on the application at this meeting.
