Two residents spoke during citizen appearances calling on the council to provide more transparency and accountability after the dismissal of a long‑tenured employee identified by speakers as Chris Glover.
Hope Stevens told the council she had emailed officials and came to ask for "details as you can permit," noting she believes the departure of someone with 26 years' tenure and programs that brought "an excess of $5,000,000 annually" merited a respectful public explanation. "To have someone who was hired 01/07/2002 to be dismissed in a way that is not honorable, to have him walked out is not respectful in my honest opinion," Stevens said and announced she would submit open-records requests.
Gary Ravenell criticized the council's leadership and urged increased accountability, oversight of direct reports, and clearer communication to restore public trust. He cited high turnover, low morale and a lack of transparency as signs of dysfunctional leadership and told council the city must "communicate with clarity, candor, and humanity." The council did not provide details about the personnel matter during the meeting; the city noted legal limits on discussing personnel but did not offer additional explanation on the dais.
