DeSoto honors student leaders and promotes three police officers

At its March 3 meeting the DeSoto City Council recognized multiple student participants in the city's shadow program and the police department promoted three officers.
Mayor Rachel Proctor read proclamations naming students who participated as "mayor for a day," "city manager for a day," and similar shadow experiences; City Manager Majid Al Godfrey and department chiefs introduced each youth. Students Sanai Nance, Caden Roberts, Ryan Mitchell and Lauren Garner received proclamations acknowledging leadership and civic engagement.
Police Chief Joe Costa presented promotions for Eric Johnson (promoted to corporal), Patrick Kreckle (promoted to sergeant) and Warren Summers (promoted to lieutenant), noting years of service for each and inviting family members to pin badges. "One of the best things I have to do in my duties as police chief is always to promote those officers that are going up in rank that are gonna be the future leaders of this department and of this community," Costa said. Council and attendees congratulated the officers and students.
The recognitions were ceremonial and did not require formal council action beyond acknowledgement.
