The DeSoto City Council approved the purchase of a closed-circuit television (CCTV) inspection van for the public utilities department at a cost of $459,956.31.
Public utilities staff explained CCTV vans allow crews to inspect underground sanitary sewer lines with high-resolution cameras to identify structural issues or blockages without costly excavation. "Adding this equipment to the public utilities fleet will enable the staff to perform preventive maintenance by making point repairs and identifying other potential maintenance issues before sanitary sewer overflows or pipe failures occur," the presenter said. Staff reported three quotes and recommended the Rush Truck Center proposal, which will use CLS Equipment Company in Richardson to outfit the vehicle and provide three days of training plus loaner equipment if needed.
Staff told council the purchase had been included in the FY26 budget ($475,000), and the recommended price was under budget. Council approved the contract authorization unanimously; staff said the purchase would be executed through the city manager following council action.
