Del Valle ISD midyear math benchmarks show district gains but highlight 5th–7th grade gaps

Doctor Bailey presented the district’s spring 2026 midyear math benchmark results and told trustees that 3rd- and 4th-grade cohorts show gains while performance gaps begin to appear between 5th and 7th grades. The presenter said the district’s midyear benchmark for 3rd grade rose 6.4 percentage points compared with the previous benchmark.
“Based on this data, we do have a strong upward movement of 6.4% when you look at the data overall,” Doctor Bailey said, before describing outlier campuses and implementation challenges. She noted that Del Valle Elementary’s alignment to assessment blueprints and staff experience were factors in local gains, while other campuses saw staffing changes or curriculum transitions that affected midyear results.
Trustees asked for additional detail on 7th-grade performance, which Doctor Bailey said was 1% at midyear against a year-end target of 12%. The presentation emphasized district strategies to address gaps — targeted PLCs, small-group instruction, interventionists and external partners (Big Rock Education) — and trustees accepted the presentation by unanimous vote.
