Tax assessor-collector releases funded title specialist position after internal training

Scott Gregg, Collin County’s Tax Assessor-Collector, told commissioners the item before the court was not the creation of a new position but the release of a title specialist slot already approved and funded in the fiscal year 2025 budget.
"This is just releasing a position that was already approved and funded," Gregg said, adding he delayed asking for the release until staff with the required experience and training were identified. Gregg explained title work requires about nine to 12 months of experience and takes longer per transaction because of VIN and odometer documentation compared with other transactions.
Commissioners thanked Gregg for waiting until trained personnel were ready and approved the release of the position on a unanimous 4–0 vote. A speaker noted the positions were created with funds in contingency and that the county has the funds to cover the role; no additional budget request was made during the discussion.
The court did not identify the individual who will move into the title specialist role during the public discussion.
