Council votes 11-2 to receive and file Shute Park contract update; executive committee to review redevelopment proposal

Alder Jorgensen moved to receive and file Item 0594-26, an update on the current contract for the city's golf courses that is due to expire at the end of the year. "I move to receive and file," he said during debate.
Alder Weidner opposed receiving and filing the item, saying the purpose of her communication was to ensure standing committees discuss the contract before it expires: "I don't know why anyone in this room would want to silence anyone... this conversation needs to take place amongst this body or at least amongst the committee." Alder Harmon and others said receiving and filing would prevent duplication with a scheduled executive-committee review and keep the public from confusion. The roll call vote recorded 11 ayes and 2 nos; the motion carried.
The mayor had also announced a separate communication (Item 0609-26) requesting authorization to enter an agreement with Leopold Johnson Golf Group for shoreline stabilization, habitat restoration, clubhouse construction and a long-term lease; that communication was referred to the executive committee by voice vote earlier in the meeting. Council members requested that the existing contract be shared with members by email to simplify future questions.
