Bexar County backs up to $40M in local funds to advance East–West State Spur tied to Toyota expansion

Bexar County Commissioners on Tuesday authorized a resolution supporting an advanced funding agreement with the Texas Department of Transportation for an East—West State Spur project that would connect to property abutting the proposed Toyota expansion. County Public Works told the court the county's initial participation is $20,000,000 with authorization for an additional $20,000,000 for approved overruns and related eligible costs, for a county participation amount not to exceed $40,000,000.
Wegman, county staff presenting the item, said TxDOT has matching funds available and the advanced funding agreement is required to secure state participation and proceed with planning, right-of-way, engineering and construction. ‘‘Bexar County has committed $20,000,000 to an East West spur from US 281 South...’’ Wegman said, describing the connectivity benefits and the role of local match. The court voted unanimously to approve the resolution and directed Public Works to negotiate the advanced funding agreement with TxDOT and return the agreement for final approval.
