Commission hears staff briefing on Cypress-area demolition and detention plans tied to wastewater changes

Christian Summers said demolition plans were reviewed to clear buildings and maximize detention in the area around the wastewater facilities; he told commissioners that removing structures and installing bypass lines to the City of Houston are part of sequencing and that detention work could improve drainage and require new flood mapping. "It would require new mapping," he said when asked if the completed detention would affect the floodplain.
Summers identified project leads and consultants: "we've got a project manager, Ummer Khan, and he has assistance from Casey Go forth, as well as Quiddity, an engineering firm. And then Ardura did the design." Commissioners discussed schedule uncertainty and the city's recent acquisition of a nearby car wash property that could be included in project plans; Summers said some demolition and phased detention work might precede full wastewater-plant removal and replacement.
