Council adds eight park projects, including Stormy Jones field renovation; BASA pledges $80,000

The council approved an amendment to Year 2 of the Parks Capital Improvement Plan that adds eight projects intended to address safety, ADA access and life-cycle replacement across Bedford parks.
Parks Director Mark Long said the 8-project package totals roughly $480,000. Projects include swing-set replacements at three parks, a fence around the new Central Park play structure to accommodate children who wander, a retaining-wall repair along a trail, linear-trail repairs, a new loop path at Carousel Park, a pipeline-to-Brook Hollow Park trail tie-in, and upgrades to a 2–5-year-old Central Park playground. Long highlighted Stormy Jones soccer field as a priority: he estimated the full renovation at about $220,000 and said the Bedford-Euless Soccer Association (BASA) has pledged $80,000 toward that cost. "With their $80,000 contribution, we're down to $140,000," Long said while describing a plan to laser-grade, add irrigation and install more resilient TIFTUF Bermuda grass.
Long also explained staff removed two high-cost items from the previous list (poured-in-place rubber surfacing) because recent pricing made them cost prohibitive. Council members asked sizing and costing questions and requested continued oversight; the council voted to approve the CIP amendment unanimously.
