Council approves Playa 6 wet well/force‑main CMAR and $7.49M street maintenance contract

Council approved a Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR) contract to begin work on the Playa 6/Lawrence Lake wet well and a 30‑inch force main. Public Works staff described a secant‑pile wet‑well requiring deep foundation work (piles to ~85–90 feet), simultaneous open‑cut and bored force‑main installation through neighborhoods, and a mobilization window of about 30–40 days. The wet well construction is expected to take 6–8 months; the force main could take about a year. "When we are all done, this system will pump 15,000,000 gallons a day out of Lawrence Lake," staff said, comparing it to current pumpage of roughly 3–4 million gallons per day.
Earlier in the meeting council also awarded a Phase 1 street maintenance contract for cape seal and microsurfacing work to Intermountain Slurry in the amount of $7,488,727.66. Staff said the cape‑seal approach is less costly than full mill-and-overlay and improves skid resistance while extending pavement life. Both awarded contracts were approved by unanimous council votes after presentation and questions about traffic impacts, signage and coordination.
