Resident urges council to fund and expand Layton Senior Center
Summary

Scott Grant, introduced by staff as the first public commenter, urged the Forney City Council to address growing space and funding shortfalls at the Layton Senior Center. He said the center helped pay half the cost of the current building when it opened—"the city could only come up with $250,000 for the total cost of $500,000"—and that recent funding from the United Way stopped in 2024, leaving operations on an "unsustainable path."
Grant asked the council to evaluate operational funding, study options to expand or relocate the center, and seek funding partners such as the Meadows Foundation. He also asked the council to restore monthly access to a conference room that has been repurposed for city record storage, saying the senior center now struggles to find meeting space. "We don't have a conference room when we need it sometime," Grant said.
The comment came during the meeting's public-comment period; council members did not take formal action on the request at the meeting but the item was recorded for follow-up. The council's consent and public-hearing business proceeded after public comments concluded.
