Councilmember Byrd previews April 30 economic symposium, announces elections and reflects on service

Councilmember Andre Byrd Sr., who said he is retiring from city council, used his final official report to highlight upcoming local events and to press the case for educating the public about economic incentives. Byrd announced that early voting runs April 28 and election day is May 2 for seats in Place 2 and Place 4, and he described a mayor-hosted preview of the ARC for faith leaders that included clergy from area congregations.
Byrd also announced an economic development symposium he is organizing for April 30 to bring in city managers and developers to explain incentives and regional competitiveness. "The aim is to really educate our community on why it's necessary to give incentives... why is DeSoto being left behind from an economic development perspective?" Byrd said. He invited board members to attend and said the symposium would run from about 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. with breakfast and lunch provided.
