DeSoto to adopt priority-based budgeting, will score supplemental requests over $1,000

Finance Director Lakita Sutton told attendees that DeSoto will adopt a priority-based budgeting model for FY2027 and implement a scoring matrix to evaluate departmental supplemental requests.
Sutton said the city formed a budget committee that will assist finance staff by scoring requests that exceed baseline budgets. “If departments are gonna be requesting any supplemental funds, in addition to that, anything over $1,000 will be required to submit a supplemental budget request from the department with very specific information about what the request is and what the consequences will be if their request is not funded,” she said. Sutton added that scored requests will be brought to the city manager's office for further review.
