City staff asked council to approve a bond-funded purchase of cellular-read water meters to continue the second year of the city’s meter replacement program.
Nate told council that public works is well into its second year of installing cellular read meters and that the meters provide near-real-time data for homeowners. He presented the purchase as a draw on debt issued in the city's '24 series and stated the spending amount: “For spending, $160,008.25.” Because the amount exceeded staff authority ($100,000), council voted to approve the purchase.
Staff said the meters enable homeowners to view hourly water-usage data and improve billing accuracy; the purchase was presented as a necessary maintenance and replacement activity supported by bond proceeds.
