District highlights literacy pilot and new data-review work

Dr. Peckholtz (presenter S6), introduced by the business manager, reported on parent-teacher conferences, a literacy pilot and a recent data retreat designed to pull assessment information into actionable steps. He said the literacy effort is planned as a multi-year rollout and that the district will work with professors from DSU to support teachers.
"We gained a lot of knowledge and insight," S6 said about the literacy pilot and data retreat, adding the work will start with "baby steps" and targeted teacher support. Board members and administrators noted the retreat focused on Smarter Balanced scores and identifying both strengths to sustain and weaknesses to address. The discussion also covered an interrupted ASVAB testing schedule — S3 and S6 said the district missed planned ASVAB testing because of a federal shutdown and the testing director's death, and staff are pursuing local proctor certification so affected students can complete testing needed for enlistment.
