Commission designates Commerce Parkway a 'major corridor' in zoning code cleanup
Summary
Commissioners approved code amendments that designate Commerce Parkway as a major corridor and make minor roadway name cleanups; the designation ties development near the new corridor to existing major‑corridor design standards.

The commission approved an amendment to the city’s major corridor section to add Commerce Parkway to the list of designated corridors and to make limited cleanup edits to roadway names so the list conforms with the mobility master plan. Planner Brynn Habey explained major corridor standards — which apply within 500 feet of the roadway — require screening for loading areas and above‑ground equipment, a 25‑foot landscape and pedestrian easement and a 6‑foot meandering sidewalk, and prohibit six land uses within that 500‑foot buffer. The amendment itself does not change the standards but extends their geographic application to Commerce Parkway, a primary collector that would connect Palmer Lane to East New Hope and support development in planning areas E and G.
Commissioners had no substantive objections; there were no public speakers for the item. A motion to approve the ordinance cleanup and Commerce Parkway designation passed on a roll‑call vote and will move to council for final action.
