At the Forney Planning and Zoning Commission hearing about a conditional use permit for U-Haul rentals, applicant Marcellus Austin described his warehouse operation as supporting nonprofit programs and said rental income would sustain those services. Austin identified himself and his address and said his primary facility is in Garland, Texas while the Forney location stores and sorts donations.
"We only have a couple employees there," Austin said. "This would actually help us to continue doing the work that we do," he added, listing an after‑school program, food pantry and recycling/liquidation sales as activities tied to the warehouse.
Austin told commissioners he would limit equipment stored at the site to seven pieces and said he could place them on paved areas so they would not block traffic or neighbors' access. Commissioners, however, questioned vehicle sizes and turn radius for box trucks and trailers and asked how prior parking concerns had been or would be addressed. Austin acknowledged an inspector had visited after a truck was briefly parked on grass and said the operator removed the vehicle.
The applicant framed the proposal as a local service and revenue source for community programs; commissioners ultimately denied the conditional use permit, citing parking and zoning noncompliance.
