The Forney City Commission approved a final plat for 1st Baptist Church of Forney at 1003 College Street to dedicate necessary easements for future facility changes. Staff said the plat consists of one lot totaling 32 acres and that it complies with the city's comprehensive zoning and subdivision ordinances.
When Commissioner Childress asked how the church planned to use the land, a church representative said, "The goal would be to, add a parking lot, so we've, we're running at 85% capacity a number of Sundays and especially on big Sundays like Easter and Christmas Eve, we'll be overflowed ..." The representative said the additional parking would relieve overflow onto nearby streets and school parking while the congregation continues to grow.
Following staff recommendation, a motion to approve the final plat was made, seconded, and carried by voice vote. The approval dedicates the easements shown on the plat and allows the church to pursue the planned parking improvements and any subsequent permitting needed for construction.
