The City advanced Ordinance 26-25 on first reading after a public hearing and staff presentation. Assistant city manager (speaker S12) described the requested site revision for a Flytrex drone-delivery facility on 4.3 acres behind a shopping center at 1121 West Pipeline Road, including a screened storage shed and a fenced area for drone launch and landing pads.
Applicant Wade Harden (S13) told the council Flytrex focuses on food delivery ("98 plus percent of our deliveries are food related"), described the site layout (approximately 5,000 square feet, a 16-by-18 storage structure and a depiction of up to 16 launch pads with an initial plan for 4–6 in operation), and said sales tax will be collected at the point of sale and remitted to the city. Council members asked about delivery timing, food temperature, and the service area; Harden said drones travel roughly 30 mph in a direct line and the app workflow is similar to other delivery services. After questions, a council member moved to approve the ordinance on first reading based on a 4–0 Planning & Zoning recommendation; the motion passed by voice vote and the ordinance will return for second reading.
