The Commissioners Court observed World Hemophilia Day and heard from advocates and family members about diagnosis, care access and the emotional toll of bleeding disorders.
Dr. Robin Cabetta of the Hemophilia Federation of America asked the court to promote awareness, early diagnosis and equitable care. "This day highlights the importance of early diagnosis, equitable care, and strong community support," she said. Melissa Compton, executive director of the Lone Star Bleeding Disorders Foundation, described the foundation’s work across southern Texas and shared personal family experience with diagnosis. Dr. Phaedra Rainey spoke of losing her son to complications related to hemophilia and urged action to ensure access and support for affected families.
Speakers thanked county partners and called for continued outreach, education and collaboration to improve quality of life and care access for people living with bleeding disorders.
