County Line Cook Off returns to Glenn Heights this weekend; organizers seek judges and teams

Mayor Pro Tem Travis Bruton and Clint Woodward of the Red Oak Area Chamber presented plans for the second Glenn Heights County Line Cook Off, scheduled March 27–28 at Heritage Park. Woodward said the competition is a three‑meat contest (brisket, pork ribs, chicken) with additional jackpot events such as ribeye steaks and breakfast tacos. The event will include food trucks, music, family games, and community activities; public hours are planned for the second day (noon–4 p.m.).
Woodward said organizers hope to reach state sanctioning (which requires 25 teams) and offered a $5,000 guaranteed prize pool to attract competitors. He asked for celebrity and volunteer judges; council members asked about age limits, judge duties and scheduling. Councilmember Bruton said he would sponsor the next two teams that sign up from Glenn Heights to encourage local participation. "So the next two teams from the city of Glenn Heights that sign up to be in the barbecue competition, I am going to sponsor those teams," Bruton said.
Organizers reported several local and regional teams already signed and encouraged residents to register; team cost is $200 with a $50 discount for first responders. Staff said they will support logistics including overnight park use, electrical/generator operations and waste management as needed.
