Council authorizes up to $150,000 for onyx street preservation on 19 streets

The Hurst City Council authorized the city manager to enter into an annual preservation treatment agreement with Innovative Roadway Solutions LLC, not to exceed $150,000, and to piggyback Collin County's contract.
Public Works Director Robert Saceda described the treatment as an onyx product that is black and goes on top of the asphalt to preserve streets. “It's black. It goes on the top of the asphalt, and it preserves the actual street,” Saceda said, and staff noted the program will treat 19 streets this year, up from 12 last year.
A council member moved to authorize the agreement and the motion was seconded and carried. Staff said the program is part of the roadway condition assessment to extend pavement life and was expanded because of previous success.
Next steps include execution of the piggyback contract and scheduling of the preservation work in targeted neighborhoods.
