City staff reported that routine maintenance uncovered a leak in a six-inch cast-iron water main under a bridge in the 200 block of Brown Trail and that work required specialized expertise and equipment. Staff said the city manager authorized an emergency repair under the Texas Local Government Code exception for emergencies and returned to council to ratify that authorization.
"It's a 6 inch, water main. It's a fairly old 1 that's cast iron, and it was leaking," Assistant City Manager Clayton Fulton said, describing why an outside contractor was required. A councilmember moved to ratify the city manager's emergency purchases not to exceed $250,000 with SYB Construction Company for repairs at 211 Brown Trail; the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote.
