Council on April 28 authorized a contract not to exceed $31,000 with Retail Coach to support outreach to national retailers, brokers and redevelopment of infill sites. City staff described the move as budget-neutral, shifting funds previously used for Placer AI data to a consultant who will maintain access to the underlying data while providing ongoing broker relationships and a human interface to secure prospects.
Chris Conley, who presented the item, said the contract will help convert studies and demographic data into direct outreach to retailers and brokers that the city has not been able to develop on its own. "We still have access to that information," Conley said of Placer AI; "what we're gaining...is a direct relationship with those industry brokers that we are not having success with right now." A council member moved and the council approved the contract by voice vote.
