City staff updated the commission on progress implementing recommendations from an earlier diversity needs assessment and on plans to rework related HR policies.
Staff said the first near-term project is to develop mission, vision and value statements in 2026 with support from a soon-to-be-hired intern, and that the city has an agreement with a contractor (transcribed as "Lexpool") to compile and modernize anti-harassment and anti-discrimination policies so they comply with state and federal requirements. Staff also described plans for a citizen academy (an eight-week program to orient residents to city operations), translation and fillable forms for the city website, and a feedback/complaint acknowledgement system so residents receive timely confirmation and tracking of submitted complaints.
Commissioners pressed staff for a written progress report and for a concrete timeline for scheduling the citywide annual diversity training (the last training occurred in 2022). Staff agreed to provide a written dashboard-style update for the commission before the next meeting and to confirm timing for training.
