Elections office reports stronger early turnout ahead of March 3 joint primary

Hilda Salina of the Hidalgo County Elections Department told commissioners that 58 polling locations were open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on primary election day and that, at the time of her report, 4,591 residents had voted in person that day. Salina also reported 61,504 people voted during the early-voting period, representing a 13.51% turnout for early voting and higher early participation compared with prior election cycles.
Salina provided precinct-by-precinct early-voting tallies (for example, 323 votes at Lark Community Center) and reminded voters that polling location and sample ballot information are available at the county website. "All 58 locations opened at 7AM and will be open until 7PM today," she said. The court received the election update as informational and encouraged voter participation.
