The Hidalgo County Commissioners Court adopted several proclamations and a resolution on March 3. The court recognized March 2026 as colorectal cancer awareness month and celebrated the 20th anniversary of South Texas Health System Children's Hospital; speakers stressed early detection and local pediatric capacity. "State law requires insurance companies to provide screening coverage for adults age 50 and older," a proclamation reader said when introducing the colorectal-cancer item.
In a separate action the court approved a resolution creating the first motorcycle patrol unit in Precinct 4. Constable Atanasio Jr. Gaetan, who addressed the court after the resolution passed, described the unit as "a visible symbol of our dedication to public service," saying the deputies completed rigorous training and that the motorcycles will improve traffic response and community outreach. The resolution passed by voice vote and commissioners thanked law-enforcement partners who attended the meeting.
