Council approves special‑use permit amendment to allow ice vending machine at Sunset Strip

The Glenn Heights City Council voted 7–0 on April 7 to approve an amendment to a special‑use permit that allows a freestanding ice vending machine kiosk at 2800 Sunset Strip.
Planning staff presented the site and explained that the property is a 0.4‑acre retail parcel and that the planning and zoning commission recommended approval. Staff recommended waiving a 15‑foot landscape buffer along the northern property line because existing concrete and a masonry wall would be damaged by excavating for the required planting strip. "Staff recommendation is that you approve this request to add that [ice] machine as well as waive the requirement because of the existing wall as well as the concrete," the planning staff member said.
Council confirmed that neighbors within 200 feet had been mailed notice twice and that no written objections were on file. After a friendly amendment to explicitly grant the waiver, the council approved ordinance O‑04‑26 (vote 7–0).
