Assistant City Manager Ashby Gordon asked council to consider using hotel occupancy tax (HOT) funds to replace four directional monument signs on Lakeway Boulevard after one sign was damaged by a vehicle.
“We are asking council to consider up to $60,000 to replace the 4 signs on Lakeway Boulevard,” Ashby Gordon said, citing a vendor estimate of $52,006.85, an insurance estimate of about $5,000 for damage, and a projected city capital contribution of roughly $8,000.
Council members raised design questions about color contrast and arrow legibility, suggested including lighting, and discussed whether the project should cover additional signs already in the city's purview or signs on TxDOT-owned land. One council member proposed expanding the scope to include all similar signs under city control; the motion to approve agenda item 14 with that expansion was made and carried as recorded in the minutes.
Staff said procurement policy requires three quotes and that renderings and lighting options would be addressed as they finalize bids. The council did not set an exact contract award at the meeting but authorized the funding cap and broader inclusion of city-controlled signs.
