A longtime Lake Jackson resident told the council she wants the city to remove the word "enchantment" from the city’s branding and logo, saying the term can carry negative meanings and that "words matter," especially for young people.
"My name is Pilar Blanca Guerrero... Words today matter," Pilar Guerrero told the council, describing experiences that led her to request the change and saying she intends to pursue a community outreach effort. Guerrero asked the council to consider taking the word "enchantment" out of the city's logo and said she would continue grassroots work to build support.
Several council members and residents responded that the word carries positive meaning for them. Councilwoman Seth said she typically associates the term with "lovely" and described the city's history of family and community values. Another resident noted the word evokes local natural beauty and the feeling residents have of the city. Council members said the matter would not be advanced by the council unless there was wider community interest; the mayor encouraged Guerrero to pursue broader citizen engagement and return the request if there is demonstrated public support.
The council did not take immediate action on branding tonight; members said they welcome constituent-led outreach and may revisit the suggestion if the community shows a clear mandate.
