The Lake Jackson City Council accepted a donation of radar equipment for the Lake Jackson Police Department at its April 6 meeting. A donor representative said the contribution provided $9,000 toward radar units now installed on the department's motorcycle units.
Officer Gadboi of the Lake Jackson Police Department described how the equipment changes enforcement in school zones. "With the radar you've generously donated, I can do it while moving," Gadboi said, explaining that rear-facing radar warns officers of a speeding vehicle approaching from behind so they can finish a stop safely and pursue the violator. He said the capability "made the school zones a whole lot safer for the children." The donor and council thanked the department and the donor organization for the contribution.
The presentation was made during the council's presentations portion and drew brief remarks of appreciation from the mayor and council. No formal action beyond acknowledgment was required.
