The court proclaimed Friday, May 22 through Monday, May 25, 2026 as Johnson County Days of Remembrance and invited American Legion Auxiliary members and Marty Peters to the well for a proclamation and reading of 'In Flanders Fields.' Marty Peters encouraged residents to remember the reasons for Memorial Day and to attend a May 26 remembrance at Clyburn Memorial Cemetery.
Separately, the court heard from Christine Hocken Boyd of Meals on Wheels and commissioners described ride-along experiences. The judge said participating commissioners witnessed how the program provides both meals and essential wellness checks: “We're proud to see how they help people maintain dignity and maintain independence by delivering meals to those who need it most,” he said. Christine Hocken Boyd and others thanked volunteers and noted the program’s role in supporting homebound seniors.
The court recessed from announcements after the recognitions and moved to the remainder of the agenda.
