La Habra council honors Sonora High girls wrestling team for Southern Section Division 4 title

The La Habra City Council recognized Sonora High Schools girls wrestling team at its March 2 meeting for winning the 2026 Southern Section Division 4 championship.
Principal Casares thanked coaches, parents and boosters for their support, calling the achievement "a big deal" for the students and the community. "Just couldn't be more proud of you and really excited about what's to come in the future as well," Casares said. The team and coaching staff joined councilmembers at the front of the chamber to receive certificates and to pose for photographs.
The teams coach expressed gratitude for the parents, boosters and assistant coaches who supported the program through fundraising and tournament travel. "I honestly couldn't do it without them," the coach said, and also thanked assistant coaches and athletic staff by name. Mayor Medrano and other councilmembers praised the student-athletesaccomplishment and encouraged them to keep competing.
The recognition was ceremonial; no formal council action was taken other than the presentation and certificates.
